Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission has introduced several changes in the PCS exam, in terms of both the pattern and syllabus have been revised from 2018 onward. UPPSC Syllabus 2021
The UPPSC PCS exam has three stages: a preliminary exam, the main exam, and an interview. In the preliminary exam, candidates can expect questions from Current Affairs, General Science, World Geography, Indian Politics and Economy, the Indian National Movement, General Mental Ability, Hindi, and more.
Similarly, in the Main exam, questions will appear from eight areas, including General Hindi, Essay, four General Studies subjects, and two optional subjects.
The preliminary exam carries 400 marks in all, where each section consists of 200 marks. At the same time, the main exam has 1500 marks, distributed across the eight sections.

According to the new pattern, the first paper will be the deciding factor for the cut-off, and the second paper will be of qualifying nature where candidates must score at least 33% marks to come through.
Also, while candidates gain marks for every correct answer, they lose a third of the score for the wrong ones. So, for example, if a question carries two marks, and if a candidate has answered it wrong, that candidate will lose 0.66 marks. However, if the candidate decides not to attempt that question, that candidate will not lose any marks.
Marking two answers will also be considered negative marking, and here too, candidates also lose a third of the marks.
Time Required to Complete the UPPSC Syllabus
Those appearing for the UPPCS exam must make sure that they prepare rigorously for the same. The three stages of the exam will happen over a year, and aspirants must study for at least six hours every day. The time required to complete the syllabus depends on how much effort a candidate is willing to put in and the coaching and study materials.
